Why we started The Family Kitchen
Life with a family is busy. Between work, school runs, sport and everything else, cooking a proper meal from scratch every night just isn't realistic. You still want to feed everyone something good.
That's the gap we set out to fill. Real, home-style food, properly portioned, snap-frozen at peak freshness, and delivered to your door so dinner takes minutes, not hours. No fuss, no mystery ingredients, just genuinely tasty meals the whole family will enjoy. From our family to yours.

Every meal is prepared by our chefs in our MPI-registered kitchen in Mount Maunganui, snap-frozen straight after cooking to lock in flavour and goodness, then sent out in temperature-controlled packaging.
That's why your meals can sit in the freezer for up to 3 months and still taste like they were made today. It's also why we're trusted as an ACC-approved supplier (vendor VBI718) for nutritional support during injury recovery.

An ACC-approved nutrition supplier
The Family Kitchen is an officially approved ACC nutrition supplier. If you're recovering from injury and your ACC plan covers nutritional support, our meals may be eligible for funding, delivered to your door so recovery is one less thing to worry about.
We work directly with ACC case managers, GPs and clients across New Zealand to arrange meal plans tailored to recovery needs. Talk to your case manager about adding us to your plan, or get in touch and we'll walk you through it.

Our kitchen and storefront is at 40 Hewletts Road, Mount Maunganui 3116. You can shop in-store, click-and-collect, or order online for nationwide delivery. Trading hours and a map are below.
We deliver chilled, nationwide, in temperature-controlled packaging. We dispatch Monday to Thursday, never on a Friday or the day before a public holiday, so nothing sits in a depot over the weekend. Urban orders usually arrive within 1–2 business days, and rural delivery is available too, just get in touch to confirm timing. Your delivery cost is worked out by region and shown at checkout before you pay.
Meals are snap-frozen straight after cooking and keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Once defrosted in the fridge, enjoy within 3 days. Every meal is labelled with storage instructions.
Microwave from frozen: pierce the film and heat on high for 2.5–3 minutes, give it a stir, then rest for 1 minute.
Oven from defrosted: 180°C for 15–20 minutes. Always check the food is piping hot before serving. Full instructions are on every label.
Absolutely. Most families stock the freezer with a week (or more) of meals in one go. Just add what you need from the menu, pick your serve sizes, and we'll deliver everything snap-frozen and ready to heat.
Yes. Our menu includes a Low Carb range with the carbs dialled back, plus everyday Staple meals and special Gourmet dishes. There's something for everyone at the table.
Our menu suits a range of dietary needs, and you can check the allergen and ingredient details under 'More Info' on each meal card, or email shop@mealprep.nz with anything specific. Please note our kitchen is not allergen-free. We also handle gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, fish and shellfish, so we can't guarantee any meal is completely free of these or of cross-contamination.
