Meal Delivery After a C-Section NZ
A c-section is major surgery, and the early weeks are for healing and getting to know your baby — not standing at the stove. The Family Kitchen delivers chef-made, home-style meals after a c-section to your door, snap-frozen at peak freshness and shipped chilled nationwide. Keep a freezer full of proper dinners, heat one from frozen in 2.5–3 minutes with a newborn on your shoulder, and skip the cooking and shopping while you recover. It's also a thoughtful way for whānau and friends to help — our care packages let them send meals with a personal message.
Why ready meals help after a c-section
Recovery from a c-section takes weeks. Lifting, bending and standing for long stretches are uncomfortable, sleep is broken, and there's a newborn to feed and settle. Ready-to-heat meals mean you and your partner eat well without one more task on the list.
- No lifting heavy pots or standing at the stove while your incision heals
- Nourishing meals to keep your energy up through broken sleep
- Fewer supermarket trips with a newborn
- Meals ready even during the 3am and one-handed moments
How the meals work
Our meals are cooked by chefs in our MPI-registered kitchen in Mount Maunganui, then snap-frozen and delivered chilled in temperature-controlled packaging. They keep up to 3 months frozen, so you can prepare well before your due date. Heat one from frozen in the microwave for 2.5–3 minutes, stir and rest 1 minute — perfect for one-handed dinners. From defrosted, oven-heat at 180°C for 15–20 minutes. Once defrosted, keep in the fridge and eat within 3 days.
Tip: Stock your freezer in the last few weeks of pregnancy so meals are ready the moment you're home. Keep a few in easy reach so a partner or visitor can heat one without asking where anything is.
A caring gift for new parents
If someone you love has just had a baby, meals are one of the most useful gifts you can give. Our care packages let you send a bundle of chef-made meals with a personal message, so new parents can rest and eat well without cooking. It's practical support that arrives right when it's needed most.
- Send meals with a personal message through our care packages
- Gift cards available if you'd rather let them choose
- Family-sized meals so partners and older kids eat too

Meals to suit new-parent needs
Appetite and energy needs change after birth. We offer a wide range so you can pick what suits you, including high protein, low carb, gluten free and dairy free, plus hearty family lunch and dinner meals and kids options for older siblings.
A note on ACC
A c-section on its own generally isn't an ACC matter, so recovery meals here are usually about rest and care rather than funded support. That said, if you've had an injury or a treatment injury and ACC is involved in your care, you may be eligible for meal or home support as part of a recovery plan — talk to your ACC case manager or provider. As an ACC-approved supplier (VBI718), we can help with the process where it applies. This isn't medical advice; follow guidance from your midwife or doctor.
Delivery around New Zealand
We dispatch Monday to Thursday. Urban delivery is usually 1–2 business days, rural on request, and delivery cost by region is shown at checkout. No lock-in contracts — order to suit your family.
When should I order meals for after my c-section?

Yes. Our care packages let you send chef-made meals with a personal message, and gift cards are available too.
Does ACC cover meals after a c-section?
